“Celebrating innovative research at Redcliffe Hospital... Dr Joel Dulhunty (Research Director) with Associate Professor Amanda Fox and winner of the 2025 Research Excellence Award, Kylie Jacobs, for her Intensive Care Unit research.”

The diversity of projects showcased at the 2025 Research Symposium is a testament to Redcliffe Hospital’s growing reputation as a catalyst for innovation, says Director of Research Dr Joel Dulhunty.

Speaking after this year’s symposium, where presenters shared insights into the broad spectrum of research and quality improvement studies taking place across the hospital, Dr Dulhunty said that there is no greater motivator than improving outcomes for patients.

“The exciting and diverse program, and the enthusiasm of attendees, speaks volumes about our collective commitment to collaboration and innovation.

“Thanks to questioning minds, creative thinkers and an environment that actively supports innovation, translation and ongoing quality improvement, Redcliffe Hospital is a promising space for researchers at every stage of their career.”

With more than 110 attendees, in person and online, and a diverse program of presentations, from co-designing trauma-informed care for fathers and non-birthing parents to laying the groundwork for robotics technology to increase movement among older patients, the 2025 Symposium featured speakers from across multiple professional groups and areas including allied health, nursing, pharmacy, medical imaging, emergency medicine, anaesthetics, intensive care and obstetrics and gynaecology.

“A highlight of the Symposium was the keynote address by Associate Professor James Kirby, Australia's leading compassion researcher. Professor Kirby shared invaluable perspectives on the importance of compassion, both as a powerful inner resource and a practical pathway to psychological resilience,” said Dr Dulhunty.

“Our thanks to the many people who made this event possible, from the facilitators and presenters to the hospital’s research committee and senior leadership team.

“Special thanks to Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital and the Private Practice Trust Fund Advisory Committee for supporting research at Redcliffe Hospital.”
