"Our son was born at Redcliffe Hospital and because of his condition, we visited regularly,” said grateful parent Julia Mika, mother of Lewis who is one of only 40 people worldwide with KCNK9 Imprinting Syndrome, a rare condition affecting muscle tone, speech and motor skills.
“The newly refurbished playroom and parent lounge will provide more comfort during what is often an incredibly challenging time, when families are at their most vulnerable. Any hospital stay - whether short or long-term - can be stressful for the entire family. Having access to thoughtfully upgraded spaces such as this offers small but meaningful touches of home within an otherwise clinical environment.
“These seemingly small comforts can mean the world to families already navigating the emotional and physical strain of a hospital stay with their child,” Julia said.
Sesame Lane said supporting Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital and the new Parents Lounge and Playroom aligned closely with its values and commitment to children and community.
“As an organisation dedicated to early learning and childhood development, we saw an opportunity to make a meaningful impact for families in our local community,” said Kerri Smith, Head of Sesame Lane.
“Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day gave us the opportunity to support a project that brings comfort, happiness and hope to families and children when they need it most.”
The donation saw Sesame Lane recognised as an Impact Partner of Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital, an initiative of the RBWH Foundation in partnership with Redcliffe Hospital, supporting projects that enhance patient care, research and wellbeing close to home.
The Parents Lounge and Playroom upgrade is just one example of what’s possible when business and community come together to support their local hospital.
“The support of the community through Giving Day has a real and lasting impact on our staff, patients and families,” said Sharyn Tidswell, Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Manager.
“It raises hope, strengthens community connections and helps create spaces and services that bring comfort to people at every stage of care.”
With the support of generous Impact Partners like Sesame Lane, Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital aims to deliver more projects that make a lasting difference close to home.
Businesses and community members are encouraged to get involved on Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day, 21 May 2026, and help Raise Giving for Redcliffe Hospital, ensuring outstanding care for generations to come.
