The Moreton Bay community has once again come together in support of Redcliffe Hospital, with more than $48,000 raised at the fifth annual Crew Legal Spring Gala Ball on Friday 11 September.
Hosted by valued Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Impact Partner, Crew Legal, the sold-out event brought together local businesses, community leaders, supporters and friends for an evening of celebration, connection and generosity, all helping to make a difference for patients, families and staff at Redcliffe Hospital.
Funds raised from the evening will support Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital, an initiative of RBWH Foundation, helping to raise patient comfort, support research and contribute to staff wellbeing initiatives across the hospital.
Over the past five years, Crew Legal has proudly hosted the Spring Gala Ball, with the event now raising a total of more than $150,000 for Redcliffe Hospital. Previous fundraising efforts have supported projects including improvements to rehabilitation and palliative care spaces, as well as vital equipment for the hospital's Birth Suite.
A memorable highlight of the evening was hearing from guest presenter Mark Adams and his support dog, Macintyre (Mac). Nearly six years after being diagnosed with Locked-In Syndrome and initially being fully paralysed apart from his eye movements, Mark shared his extraordinary journey of determination, resilience and recovery. Guests were inspired to hear how Mark has progressed from requiring around-the-clock support and specialised mobility equipment to now living with greater independence, supported by Mac, who is currently in training.
Mark spoke about recently spending two weeks camping independently with Mac, his goal of one day driving his own vehicle, and the progress he has made in walking with the assistance of a walker.
His story was both inspiring and emotional, providing a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the importance of patients, families and communities being supported throughout their healthcare journey.
Guests also heard from Dr Patty Lee-Apostol, Medical Director of Palliative Care at Redcliffe Hospital, who spoke about the importance of quality of life, compassionate care and supporting not only patients, but also the families who walk alongside them.
Through a thoughtful conversation, Dr Lee-Apostol highlighted how spaces such as the palliative care lounge, sunroom, garden courtyard and children's play area can have a profound impact on families facing some of life's most difficult moments.

Together, Mark and Dr Lee-Apostol demonstrated that while fundraising can support innovative medical equipment and research, it can also help create comfort, connection, dignity and moments of peace when they are needed most.
The evening featured entertainment, auctions and plenty of opportunities for the local business community to come together in support of a cause close to home.
The success of the event was made possible through the generosity of attendees and the incredible support of local businesses that donated auction and raffle prizes. Special thanks to Dynamic Bradview Roofing, who generously donated a major prize, along with Dolphins NRL, MAD ANT Termite and Pest Control, Mamma's Italian, Bunnings Rothwell, Studio Pilates Redcliffe, Electronic & Mechanical Calibrations, Peninsula Distilling, Verve Portraits, and all who donated and bought tickets. Their generosity helped make the evening a tremendous success and further demonstrated the strength of community support behind Redcliffe Hospital.
