Advanced technology for our newest arrivals

Thanks to a donation from the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, facilitated by the RBWH Foundation, newborns with jaundice will now have access to advanced phototherapy technology.

Joanna Green, Nursing & Midwifery Director, said that the new equipment “plays a vital role in ensuring optimal care for our babies affected by jaundice”. Jaundice – or hyperbilirubinemia - is a common condition where high levels of bilirubin cause a yellowish tint to a newborn's skin and eyes. It occurs because the baby’s liver is not yet developed enough to process and remove bilirubin quickly, leading to a build-up.?In severe cases, and without proper treatment, it can result in neurological damage.
